INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's basketball team (8-4, 1-1 GLVC) grabbed its first conference victory of the season on Thursday evening inside Nicoson Hall, topping the visiting Quincy Hawks (7-6, 1-2 GLVC), 94-67.

The oHounHounds built a 16-point halftime lead, with
Jesse Kempson and
CJ Hardaway combining for 28 points and 10 rebounds.
Trevor Lakes poured in 16 second-half points to finish with 19 tallies.

UIndy has now won five of the last six contests against Quincy, four coming in Indianapolis.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The beginning of the first half was tight, as the game saw five tie scores and eight lead changes before the Greyhounds took advantage of the Hawks' foul trouble. UIndy ended the half on a 26-10 run, fueled by an 11-3 fast break advantage.

The Hounds shot 58.3 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes, while limiting the Hawks to a 35.5 percent clip. Lakes led the three-point attack, knocking down five-of-nine from behind the arc, with
Miles Wayer added a pair.

UIndy outscored Quincy, 21-5, on the break, and dominated the paint, 46-28. Kempson was a force inside, scoring 23 points, while
Jacob Polakovich finished with six points in just six minutes of action.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Lakes finished with 16 rebounds, marking a new career-high for the sophomore. The Lebanon, Ind. native had eight at the break before securing another eight in the second half. Lakes' previous best was seven, which came in the season opener against Northwood. The sophomore's 16 boards is the most since
Brennan McElroy grabbed 16 against Rockhurst in January 2015.

Kempson has now totaled at least 20 points on four occasions this season, and has been in double figures in all but two contests. The senior shot 10-for-11 (90.9 percent) from the field, his best shooting percentage of the campaign.

The Hounds assisted on 20 made baskets, with
Jimmy King and Hardaway totaling six apiece. Lakes chipped in three dimes, while
Jordache Mavunga added two.

UIndy welcomes in Truman on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. tip. Last season, the Bulldogs toppled the Greyhounds in Nicoson Hall, 86-80, in the teams' only matchup. Truman defeated Lewis on Thursday evening to give the Flyers their first GLVC loss of the season.
