Women's hoops falls to #24 Truman

INDIANAPOLIS – Coming off an overtime loss Thursday night to Quincy, the UIndy women's basketball team got an opportunity to rebound in a big way with No. 24 Truman coming to Nicoson Hall Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs were also looking to rebound after surrendering their first conference loss Thursday night at Lewis. The Bulldogs had their day against UIndy, topping the Greyhounds 73-51.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Truman jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Laura Thomas ignited the Greyhound offense with the team's first two baskets of the game. Truman went to work on the UIndy interior, making three straight layups to increase their lead to 12-5. UIndy ended the quarter with momentum when Katie Sowa hit a buzzer-beater to end the quarter with the Hounds trailing by five. Truman would start extending their lead while forcing UIndy turnovers and getting the Hounds in foul trouble. Taylor Dillard brought a spark off the UIndy bench, scoring five straight for the Hounds in a matter of minutes. But, the Hounds went into the break down by 19.

UIndy shot 50% in the third quarter, but Truman got to the foul line after sending Emma Benoit and Taylor Drury to the Greyhound bench with four fouls each. The Bulldogs went five-of-nine from the stripe to outscore the Hounds 14-12 in the frame. Truman took a 21-point lead into the fourth quarter, UIndy did not give up. The Hounds scored a quick five points off a Laura Thomas layup and an Alexa Bailey three to cut the lead down before Truman came right back with five of their own. The Hounds finished out the game getting to the free throw line more and making 80% of their attempts, but Truman came away with the win in Nicoson Hall.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-The Bulldogs owned the boards against UIndy, the nine rebound differential is the biggest deficit the Hounds have faced on the glass this season.
-Alexa Bailey made her first start of the season this afternoon. Bailey logged 24 minutes with all three of her points coming on her only field goal attempt and dished out two assists as well.
-Senior Jordan Cole and freshman Mya Scheidt both made their season debuts Saturday. Cole made a layup and pulled down a rebound in her two minutes of action while Scheidt saw four minutes of play down the stretch.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach Kristin Wodrich on her team's performance, "we played with them in the second half. Truman is a really good team, you cannot make a lot of mistakes against them, and we will go back to the drawing board to see what we can do to get better."

UP NEXT
Hounds are back on the road for a quick road trip next week with their first stop in Springfield, Mo., where they will face Drury.
