Swimming & Diving Sweeps DI Rival IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS – The Greyhound swimming & diving teams opened their season on Thursday by gaining a new accomplishment during head coach Jason Hite's tenure. Thursday marked the first time that both the men and the women defeated Indianapolis DI-rival IUPUI in the same year. The men finished the night on a 154-104 final score, while the women thrashed the Jaguars 189-72. The meet was swam in short course meters, and diving did not compete due to Natatorium renovations.

The women's team not only defeated IUPUI for the first time, they won every single event in the process. Four different Greyhounds collected four wins each, while three other Greyhounds collected some as well. Edda Skoric led off her senior season with a hot start, tallying first-place finishes in the 200 medley relay (1:56.26), 100 back (1:03.8), 200 back (2:17.9) and the 400 free relay (3:54.43). Maria Rezhylo also took part in the winning 200 medley relay, but also snuck wins in the 100 breast (1:12.59), 100 fly (1:04.21) and the 400 free relay. Leticia Vaselli was the final leg of the 200 medley relay, but finished her way into wins in the 50 free (26.34), 100 free (57.91) and the 400 free relay. Marizel van Jaarsveld was the final leg of the winning 400 free relay, and also collected victories in the 200 fly (2:20.58), 200 breast (2:39.02) and the 200 IM (2:21.24).

"Throughout the meet we had the most energy on-deck than what I've seen in a while," explained senior Danielle Wood. "We were united in its entirety and I can't wait to see what we do in a month at House."

The men were just as thrilling, as Victor Antonon collected four different first-place finishes to lead the Greyhounds to a win for the second consecutive year over IUPUI. Antonon won the 200 medley relay (1:43.38), 50 free (23.22), 100 free (51.69) and the 400 free relay (3:28.33). Both Kael Yorke and Jan Zuchowicz competed at a high level for UIndy, gathering three wins each in the process. Yorke was featured in the 200 medley relay, the 100 fly (56.14) and the 400 free relay. Zuchowicz took home the 200 medley relay, the 100 breast (1:03.23) and the 200 breast (2:22.31).

"Today proved that we have a really strong team on both sides," described Antonon. "The atmosphere has been great and we've been grinding every practice, and it's going to pay off come House, GLVCs and NCAAs."

The Greyhounds featured eight other event winners on Thursday, listed below:
