SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico – The No. 1-ranked UIndy women's golf team has a special trip on deck. The Greyhounds will travel south of the border to San José del Cabo, Mexico for The Battle at the Beach, hosted by Texas Christian University at Questro Golf Club Friday through Sunday.
Â
It marks the first time UIndy will compete outside of the country during the tenure of Head Coach
Brent Nicoson. The veteran head man is excited the compete abroad, as well as face the tough field awaiting his team.
Â
"It is a special trip for us to go to Cabo to play," said Nicoson. "The girls are really excited to go down there, but they're looking at it as a business trip. They know they'll have same fun after rounds, but the expectation for the girls is they're going down there to win a tournament. When we tee it up, we only have one expectation and that's to play the best we possibly can and see what happens at the end."
Â
The 16-team field represents perhaps the toughest ever faced by the Hounds. UIndy will be the only non-DI team in the bunch, one that includes 10 of the top 55 ranked teams in Division I, highlighted by the likes of Vanderbilt (No. 11), Ole Miss (14), LSU (18) and Virginia Tech (20).
Â
The Hounds are set to tee off at Questro on Friday. Tee times and a live results link have not yet been posted. Follow
