INDIANAPOLIS – Coming off a weekend where they went undefeated and did not allow a goal, the UIndy women's soccer team was back in action Friday night at Key Stadium. The Hounds hosted GLVC newcomer Lindenwood, topping the Lions 3-1.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lindenwood started off the game with the first goal in the games fifth minute to go up 1-0 early. The Hounds did not trail for very long as
Lexi Turner headed in her own miss in the seventh minute to tie the game at 1-1. Turner's night was not over there. Just over five minutes later, the junior from Pittsboro took a pass in the box from freshman Lexi Hardie to give UIndy the 2-1 lead in the 13th minute. Like Turner before, Hardie's night was not over. The Indianapolis native was looking to set up one of her teammates cutting across with a pass, but overshot her teammates and snuck the ball in over the Lions keeper to go up 3-1 with most of the first half remaining.
Â
The Hounds defense was up to the task of defending the two goal lead in the second half, only allowing Lindenwood to put one shot on target. Freshman
Sophia Saucerman only had to make one save on the day, making her first start in just over a week. UIndy never let the Lions get close to scoring or coming close to matching the game, winning 3-1 in Key Stadium.
