LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UIndy volleyball team (11-4, 3-2 GLVC) ended its short road skid on Tuesday night, as the Greyhounds exploded offensively to hit .314 on their way to sweeping Bellarmine (12-5, 3-2 GLVC) in mid-week league action.
Â
Katie Furlong and
Taylor Jacquay combined for 28 kills from the outside, while
Alyssa Spears handed out 46 assists.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds ran out to a big 18-10 advantage in the opening frame to force a Knights' timeout after three straight kills from Furlong. The junior outside hitter totaled seven kills in the first set, with Jacquay putting away six of her own.
Â
Gillian Santana scooped up seven digs in the first game, pacing the Greyhound back line.
Emma Jones and
Kyra Simmons kept up the heat at the net, combining for a pair of blocks between the first two sets. After trailing 5-1 to begin the second frame, UIndy would go on to win the set, 25-19, with four Greyhounds recording at least three kills.
Â
The third set started almost identical to its predecessor before a couple Bellarmine attack errors gave UIndy its first lead of the game. Kills by
Elizabeth Eads, along with Furlong and Jacquay, put the set and match out of reach at 22-18, but it was back-to-back putaways from Jones that sealed the Greyhound sweep.
