INDIANAPOLIS – Everything was going right for the UIndy men's basketball team (4-0) on Sunday afternoon, as the Greyhounds shot their way to a 95-71 win over in-region Grand Valley State (3-1) at Nicoson Hall.
Â
Trevor Lakes led all scorers with 23 points, while
Jimmy King added seven rebounds and seven assists to go along with 16 tallies.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds led for more than 38 minutes on Sunday, taking the lead for good after a 3-pointer from
Cory Miller Jr. at the 17:37 mark in the first half. As a team, UIndy dilled nine of 18 from beyond the arc, with
Jordache Mavunga hitting three before the break.
Â
The Lakers got within two after a pair of jumpers right after halftime, but the UIndy offense continued to fire on all cylinders. Five different scorers used an 11-0 run, while limiting the Grand Valley offense scoreless for three-and-a-half minutes. Lakes drilled his fourth deep ball of the game during that stretch, while freshman
Kendrick Tchoua slammed one home to get Nicoson rocking.
Â
Grand Valley State was six of 10 from 3-point land in the first half, however, the UIndy defense followed the offense's suit and limited the visitors to just 14.3 percent from deep in the second. The Greyhounds outscored the Lakers, 46-27, in the second half to run away with another in-region victory.
