Women's Soccer Heading to NCAA Tournament for First Time Since 2009

INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time since 2009, the UIndy women's soccer team is heading to the NCAA tournament. The Hounds were named the 7th seed in the Midwest Region Monday night after going 13-4-1 in 2019.

UIndy's first NCAA tournament of the decade will take place in Findlay, Ohio, as the Greyhounds drew the G-MAC champion Walsh in the first round. Walsh finished their 2019 season 16-4 and defeated fourth-seeded Ohio Dominican Saturday afternoon 3-0 to clinch their conference championship after securing the No. 1 seed with a 13-4 season.

The Cavaliers are currently riding a six-game winning streak heading into the tournament. Walsh's only contest against a GLVC opponent came in the second game of the year, which also became their first loss of the season. GLVC tournament champion Southern Indiana handed Walsh a 4-nil loss on their home turf in early September before Walsh won four of their next five to finish the month.

The GLVC made up half of the Midwest region with McKendree coming in at No. 5, playing fourth-seeded Ashland at Grand Valley. GLVC champion Southern Indiana will also play at Grand Valley, facing the top-seeded Lakers. In the bottom half of the region, the other game at Findlay Thursday will be the home team Oilers hosting No. 6 Rockhurst.

UIndy will be searching for their 2nd ever NCAA tournament win Thursday against the Cavaliers, with their last win coming against Mercyhurst back in 2006.
