Swim & Dives Sweeps in Annual UIndy Quad

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy swimming & diving continued their impressive season with an emphatic showing over the weekend, emerging as the victor against all teams in the two day meet. The No. 7-ranked women swept Butler, Bellarmine and Lewis on Friday and Saturday, while the No. 2-ranked men took wins against No. 12 Missouri S&T, Lewis and Bellarmine.

The women were led by Mariia Rezhylo as she pulled in seven different wins along the weekend. Rezhylo's victories came in the 400 medley relay (3:50.55), 50 free (23.81), 100 breast (1:03.88), 200 free relay (1:35.16), 200 medley relay (1:45.11), 100 free (51.9) and the 400 free relay (3:30.11). Several of Rezhylo's times also surpassed the NCAA B standards, including the 50 free, 100 free and the 100 breast. The women featured two more Greyhounds that achieved B-cut standards in Edda Skoric in the 200 back and Cassie Kury on the one-meter board. The team also included five other Greyhounds who took home multiple wins over the weekend, including Marizel van Jaarsveld (four), Krystal Caylor (four), Leticia Vaselli (four), Skoric (two) and Darian Murray (two).

"As we continue to stay undefeated, we're looking great as a team so far," explains Rezhylo. "We had several events where we ended first and second, and it brings a ton of excitement going into House of Champions."

Payton Staman highlighted the men's team with another school-record on the early season, breaking his best one-meter six-dive UIndy score. His score of 375.82 points now ranks as the best performance in team history. The men included a plethora of multi-winners as well, including Jeron Thompson ending the weekend with six top finishes. The freshman from Trinidad & Tobago landed wins in the 400 medley relay (3:22.86), 100 breast (56.69), 200 free relay (1:21.95), 200 medley relay (1:30.23), 100 IM (51.13) and the 400 free relay (3:04.62). The Greyhounds boasted 14 different student-athletes who took home victories, including multi-winners Victor Antonon (four), Ante Lucev (three), Kael Yorke (three) and Jan Zuchowicz (two). UIndy featured seven men total with NCAA Standards, including Cody Liske (1000 free), Christian Hedeen (500 free), Payton Staman (one and three-meter), Cade Hammond (one and three-meter), Jason Lenzo (one and three-meter), Josh Zylstra (one-meter) and Benjamin Rader (one-meter).

"The spirit of camaraderie and resilience in my teammates were so high this weekend," describes Thompson. "We've had so many tough weeks of training and competition leading up to today, and we're ready to sharpen our skills for House of Champions in two weeks."

The swimming and diving teams will now prepare for the mid season madness at the annual House of Champions Invitational. The meet will be hosted by IUPUI at the downtown Natatorium, and will take place Friday, Nov 22 through Sunday, Nov 24. The prelims session on Nov 22 starts at 10 a.m. on ESPN3.
