INDIANAPOLIS - The Greyhound wrestling program will celebrate the 41st anniversary of the Midwest Classic this weekend, with 37 teams descending upon Indianapolis Saturday and Sunday in what has turned into the largest NCAA Division II wrestling event in the nation.
Sixteen of the current National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top 25 teams will be in Nicoson Hall and Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Saturday and Sunday, including #2 McKendree, #7 Ashland, #T8 Lindenwood, #11 Newberry, #12 Maryville, #13 Colorado School of Mines, #T14 Limestone, #T14 UNC-Pembroke, #T16 Central Oklahoma, #18 Newman, #T19 Tiffin, #T19 Fort Hays State, #21 Colorado State Pueblo, #22 Adams State, #T24 Bellarmine, and #T24 Findlay. In addition to the top 25 ranked teams, half of the 120 ranked wrestlers in the individual polls will also be in the field this weekend, including Greyhounds' #12
Ana Abduljelil and #8
Brody Conner.
The event features a field of 37 NCAA Division II teams. The annual event has seen over 50 eventual NCAA Division II Champs in 40 years, as well as more than 500 All-Americans and another 500 National Qualifiers come through its brackets.
