Women's Soccer Ready For Weekend in Minnesota

UIndy Greyhounds
vs.
2 Grand Valley State Lakers
Friday, Dec. 6, 4 p.m. ET, Mankato, Minn.

ON TAP
The tournament run continues for the UIndy women's soccer team this weekend. In the program's first-ever "Sweet 16" appearance, the Greyhounds (15-4-1) will travel to Mankato, Minn., to face No. 2 Grand Valley State (16-1) for the Midwest Region crown.

ABOUT GRAND VALLEY STATE
The Lakers earned the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region after going 16-1 during the regular season. Last year's national runner-up, GVSU started the season 3-0 before dropping their first and only game of the season to Minnesota State-Mankato on the road. The Lakers went on to set a GLIAC record by not allowing a single goal in conference play all season.

HOUNDS vs. LAKERS
For the first time since 2014, UIndy made the trip up to Allendale, Mich., last season to face the Grand Valley, with the host Lakers shutting out the Hounds, 5-0. In fact, Grand Valley has won all 12 all-time meetings with the Hounds, only surrendering five goals in that span.

AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
The tournament field started with 48 teams but has worked its way down to 16. The Midwest and Central Regions are coming together in Mankato, with four teams vying to go to Pittsburgh for the Final Four. Of all the teams in the two regions, UIndy is the only one to shut out both its first two opponents to open the tournament.

UNDERDOGS
Being the seventh seed in the region, the Hounds are tied for the lowest remaining seed in the field, joining Wingate as the other No. 7 seed left. The lowest seed to make the Final Four this decade was Cal State-Chico in 2011 who advanced as the No. 5 seed.
