Hounds Bounce Scots, Advance to Elite Eight

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UIndy men's soccer team (15-5-1) extended its historic season Friday afternoon, winning a physical 3-2 contest versus Ohio Valley University in the third round of the NCAA Division II Super Region Three bracket. Senior Javier Steinwascher delivered the game winner in the 88th minute to propel the Greyhounds to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.

The Greyhounds will face a familiar foe in the Sunday's SR3 final, as fellow-GLVC-club Maryville awaits in the 2 p.m. ET kick.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds opened up the match aggressively, as sophomore Alejandro Steinwascher broke the silence with the first goal of the afternoon. The score came 14 minutes in, coming off a double-assist from Bryan Moreira and J. Steinwasher.

With the score knotted at 1-1 early in the second half, senior goalkeeper Miles Palmer came up with a crucial save on an OVU penalty kick. Four minutes later, the Greyhound offense regained the lead when J. Steinwascher found the back of the net for his team-leading 13th goal of the season.

With the clock winding down, Javier wasn't done, however, as Alex set his brother up with a beautiful pass in front of the net. The elder Steinwascher beat the keeper once again, sending the Hounds to the regional final.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- J. Steinwascher now has 47 points on the season, setting a new UIndy single-season record. He leads the nation with 19 assists on the year.
- UIndy's goalkeepers tallied five saves, including Palmer's PK block and Dimitrios Karousos two saves in the final 20 minutes of the match.
- The Greyhounds (12) took two shots less than the Fighting Scots (14), though both put eight on goal.
