INDIANAPOLIS – The #9 UIndy men's tennis team opened its 2019 season against DIII Hanover College Friday in a dual-meet matchup. Playing at the UIndy Tennis Center, the #9 team in Division II was able to sweep its opponent 7-0 with few struggles during the match.
The Greyhounds kicked off the contest by sweeping all three doubles matches. Senior
Matej Kostadinov and sophomore
Dario Huber, the #6 doubles tandem in NCAA Division II, put up a perfect 6-0 score at one-doubles. The three-doubles team of
Nils Hoffacker and
Ariel Farji were next to finish, securing their victory with a final score of 6-1. The last doubles team, the two-doubles pairing of
Renato Lima and
Magnus Mueller, came out on top of their Panther opponents 6-2.
Moving into singles, newcomer
Maximilian Witthaus earned the first singles point for the Greyhounds, with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the six-singles spot. Huber was the next to finish, posting a 6-0, 6-0 score to put UIndy up 3-0.
#5 Lima was next in line, also posting a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score at one singles. Kostadinov went 6-1, 6-0 in the five singles spot, with freshman Farji (6-0, 6-1) finishing next at four singles. #32 Hoffacker finalized the 7-0 sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 score at three singles.
After starting the young season with a win in the books, the Greyhounds will continue to look ahead. Their next matchup will be in the UIndy Tennis Center against Washington Saturday, Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. EST.
