Drury, Dillard set career-highs but Hounds fall in Pink Game

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team opened up their stretch of final home games Thursday night. The Greyhounds welcomed the Maryville Saints to Nicoson Hall after the Saints won their last time out. The Saints came into tonight's game at a 9-4 mark in the conference and were able to take care of the Greyhounds by a score of 80-65.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy jumped out to a 7-3 lead to start the game with Emma Benoit scoring four quick points and Taylor Drury nailing a triple in the opening minutes. The Saints stormed back, shooting nearly 53% in the first quarter including going six-for-10 from three-point range. Maryville held a 24-12 lead going into the second period, but cooled off in the second quarter only shooting 28% from the field. UIndy started to take control of the boards, upping the rebound differential to +5. The Greyhounds took advantage of some Maryville miscues and was able to cut into the lead, still trailing 37-26 going into the half.

The Hounds got off to a slow start to open the period, trailing by as much as 17 at one point, they were not phased and came storming back midway through the quarter. UIndy started to trim the lead after a Benoit jumper, going on a 13-6 run to cut the lead down to seven after a Shira Sasson jumper. Maryville then closed out the quarter on a strong note to lead by 12 going into the final 10 minutes. UIndy tried to cut into the Maryville lead in the fourth quarter, cutting it down to 10. Despite shooting over 69% in the fourth quarter, UIndy was unable to come away with a win. Maryville went six-of-eight from the foul line while the Greyhounds did not have a single attempt in the final quarter as Maryville left Nicoson Hall with an 80-65 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-The Greyhounds combined for 18 assists tonight, their most in a game since their win over Rockhurst last month when they had 19 assists in their win over the Hawks. Freshman Taylor Dillard led the way for the Greyhounds with seven dimes, setting a new-career high.
-UIndy only got to the foul line nine times against the Saints. The nine free throw attempts is their fewest in a game since January 5 against Truman when they only had seven free-throws the entire game.
-Taylor Drury set a new career-high in points and field goals made against Maryville. Drury's 26 points broke her previous record of 25 points and her 11 field goals topped her previous-best of nine field goals she set back against Purdue Northwest (12/15).

HOUND BYTES
Head coach Kristin Wodrich on the team's loss against Maryville, "it's tough. It's also tough when we only get a few girls scoring. We gave up a lot of open three's early and that hurt us. We have to do a better job in the first half of covering their shooters because we stayed with them rest of the game which is good for our kids. They made big shots down the stretch when they needed them so credit to them for that. We wanted to be better at rebounding tonight and we were so that was a big victory for us."
