HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – The UIndy softball team (4-3) earned a pair of coveted region victories Friday at the opening day of the Music City Invitational, downing Tiffin and Davenport by respective scores of 9-2 and 3-1. The 12-team event is being hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University at Drakes Creek Park in Hendersonville, Tenn., Friday through Sunday.

The Hounds jumped on the Dragons with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. The frame featured four stolen bases for the Crimson and Grey, including a swiping of home by sophomore
Brooke Montgomery.

UIndy held on to the lead the rest of the way, tacking on two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Meanwhile, junior hurler
Lauren Honkomp (1-2) earned her first win of the season by scattering 10 hits and two runs over seven innings.

Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, UIndy delivered some timely hits to take the lead. After a Danielson walk started the rally,
Taylor Podschweit tied it up with a RBI single. Skaggs followed with an infield single to score Podschweit with what proved to be the game-winning run.

Halie Waters dealing in the circle, the Hounds tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI knock by Danielson.

Waters (3-1) went on to record her second consecutive double-digit strikeout total, fanning 10 and allowing a single unearned run in the complete-game effort.

The Music City Invitational continues Saturday with two more in-region games for the Greyhounds. UIndy takes on Ursuline College at 11 a.m. ET, and later face Kentucky Wesleyan at 3 p.m.
