Greyhounds celebrate senior day with big win over Tritons

INDIANAPOLIS – All five starters finished in double figures on Saturday, as the UIndy men's basketball team (17-7, 10-4 GLVC) overcame a halftime deficit to beat Missouri-St. Louis (18-7, 9-6 GLVC) inside Nicoson Hall on senior day, 69-64.

Trevor Lakes led the Hounds with 19 points, while seniors CJ Hardaway and Jesse Kempson combined for 24 points and 11 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The visiting Tritons led the final three minutes of the first half, and grabbed a 35-31 lead at the break by shooting 53.6 percent from the floor. Lakes, who had already drilled a pair from deep, was one of three Greyhounds with eight points at halftime.

The UIndy defense settled in during the second half, limiting Missouri-St. Louis to 25 percent from 3-point range. The Hounds scored 17 points in the final six minutes after Jordache Mavunga came up with a huge block down low, leading to a four-point play by Jimmy King less than two minutes later.

Lakes drilled his fifth deep ball of the game with 74 seconds left to give UIndy a four-point advantage, and Marcus Latham sealed the win with four free throws in the final minute.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The win over the Tritons on Saturday gives the Greyhounds their 10th GLVC win of the season to mark the ninth straight campaign the team has reached double-figure conference victories under head coach Stan Gouard.

Lakes' five 3-pointers is the sixth time this season the Lebanon, Ind. product has drilled at least a handful. The sophomore sunk seven from deep last nine days ago against Southern Indiana.

After sitting out on Thursday, Hardaway finished with 14 points against the Tritons despite not shooting a single free-throw attempt. The senior leads the Greyhounds with 117 tries from the charity stripe this season.

As a team, UIndy has shot at least 80 percent from the free-throw line in six of the last seven games. The Hounds are 5-2 during that stretch.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will travel to No. 9 Bellarmine next Thursday at Knights Hall. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Louisville.
