INDIANAPOLIS – After a close win against Tusculum a couple days earlier, the #9 Greyhounds had another close battle on Monday against Division I Butler. The final result didn't go the Greyhounds way, however, as the team fell on a final score of 2-5.
The Hounds kicked off the match quickly as #6
Matej Kostadinov and
Dario Huber won 6-0 to conclude the first doubles match. The other doubles matchup didn't go as well, as
Renato Lima and
Magnus Mueller lost 1-6, with
Nils Hoffacker and
Ariel Farji next to finish in their 3-6 loss. The Greyhounds were down 0-1 after the doubles matchups.
The single matches had several close duels, many of which were thrilling to watch. Kostadinov was the first singles match to conclude, falling 0-6, 1-6. #32 Hoffacker was the first Greyhound to win a single match, ending on a final score of 6-1, 6-2. Farji fought hard to keep the second set close, but couldn't pull it through as it fell 1-6, 5-7. Mueller was able to win against his Bulldog counterpart, squeezing through a 6-4, 6-4 victory. #5 Lima took his opponent to overtime, but couldn't corral the victory, ending the set on a score of 1-6, 6-4, (8) 6-7. Huber was the final Greyhound to finish his single match, falling in overtime as well 6-2, 6-7 (10), 0-6.
The Hounds will look to get back on a winning track against a tough #22 Ferris Sate squad out in Big Rapids, Michigan. That contest will happen on Friday, and commence at 3 PM.
