BIG RAPIDS, MI – After a hard-fought loss against Butler on Monday, Indianapolis' #9 men's tennis team traveled 314 miles to take on the Ferris State Bulldogs. The matchup was a one-sided affair, as the Greyhounds got back in their winning ways with a 6-1 victory.
The doubles consisted of a full sweep by Indianapolis, winning each of the three matches. The team of
Nils Hoffacker and
Ariel Farji finished off their opponent quickly, taking the win by a score of 6-4.
Renato Lima and
Magnus Mueller paired up and was the second win for the Hounds, ending on a final score of 7-6 (2). The final doubles match to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead came from #6 Matej Kostandinov and
Dario Huber, taking down their Bulldog counterpart 7-5.
The Greyhounds took all but one singles match on the day. Mueller was dominant against his opponent and secured the first victory 6-1, 6-3. #5 Lima was in the second single match to finish, ending on a commanding 7-6 (2), 6-2 score. Ending next on a final score of 7-6 (8) was #32 Hoffacker, giving the Greyhounds another victory. Huber was the lone Hound to fall on the day, but battled until the end, having a scorecard of 3-6, 6-3, (3) 6-7.
Maximilian Witthaus came into the match and proved to be another pivotal piece in the Greyhounds' depth, winning 6-3, 6-3. The final single matchup to conclude was Farji, who came out of the gates strong. His final score ended on a standing of 6-0, 7-6 (4).
Moving to 4-1 on the young season, the Greyhounds' next set of games will take place during a road trip to Springfield, Missouri. On Saturday, March 2, the UIndy men's tennis team will take on Northwest Missouri State. The following day (Sunday, March 3) will hold a tough match against a GLVC foe in #22 Drury.
