SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Coming off a tough loss at the hands of McKendree Thursday night, the UIndy women's basketball team traveled north to face the Prairie Stars in the Illinois state capitol. The game came down to the final possession with the Prairie Stars holding on for the 68-65 win. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter saw neither team able to pull away, UIS led for most of the half despite UIndy shooting over 58% from the field, UIndy only attempted one three pointer in the quarter with the Prairie Stars making one of their attempts. The real difference came at the free throw line with UIS going four-of-four from the stripe while UIndy did not attempt a single free throw in the opening frame. Katie Sowa nailed her first triple of the game off the
Laura Thomas assist, but the lead did not last long as UIS took back the lead right away and took a six point lead to the locker room.

The second half got off to a tough start for UIndy as the Prairie Stars opened the half on a 12-6 run to push their lead to 12 at one point. The Greyhounds stormed back, attacking the UIS interior and making their shots from deep from Sowa and Thomas yet again. The Hounds cut the Prairie Star lead to four just before the end of the third quarter after
Liz Alsot sank a pair of free throws, but UIS hit a fade-away layup at the buzzer to go into the final quarter up six. The Greyhounds cut the UIS lead down to just one with under three minutes to go, putting pressure on the Prairie Stars. Each team turned the ball over in the final 17 seconds, UIS went to the line with 10 seconds to go, missing both, giving UIndy a chance at the final shot yet again. The Prairie Stars got the ball back at the free throw line, making both shots to go up three.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy won the rebounding battle yet again today, out-rebounding UIS 35-29. They have out-rebounded their opponents in four of the last five games.
-After not going to the line in the first quarter and missing both attempts in the second quarter, the Greyhounds did not miss a free throw in the second half, going 16-for-16.
-The Greyhounds shared the ball exceptionally well against UIS, combining for 16 assists. Their 16 assists is their second most in a GLVC game this season.

Emma Benoit recorded her second-straight double-double, her third in the team's last four game. Her six double-doubles is tied for 9th-most in a season all-time at UIndy.
