Hounds fall in 12 in series finale against Notre Dame College

WESTFIELD, Ind. – The UIndy baseball team closed out their series against Notre Dame College Saturday afternoon up at Grand Park. After splitting yesterday's doubleheader, the Falcons picked up the series win with a 5-2 win Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first five innings saw a combined seven hits between the two teams. The Falcons first hit of the sixth inning resulted in the game's first run when the second batter of the inning took UIndy's Reid Werner deep into left fielder for a solo home run. The Hounds were unable to get anything going in the bottom half of the sixth, but were able to spark some offense in the bottom of the seventh inning when Trey Smith went yard for the first time of the new season to knot things up at one. UIndy had a shot at putting more than one on the board in the inning but left the bases loaded to go into the eighth tied at one. NDC filled the bases in the top of the 12th before a hit by pitch brought in the go-ahead run before the next batter had a bases clearing double to put the Falcons up 5-2 heading into the bottom half of the 12th.

Junior Reid Werner threw an exceptional game for the Hounds, going seven innings only giving up one earned run. Werner only walked one batter while fanning seven before freshman Johnny Irish came in for the Hounds. After throwing two innings yesterday, Irish entered the game for the Hounds in the eighth inning and immediately retired the side. Irish's work was short as David Corbin came on for the Hounds in the ninth inning. Corbin put a batter on base early, but got a strikeout and two groundouts to keep the game tied heading into bottom of the ninth. The Greyhound bullpen held on strong in the 10th and 11th innings before the four-run 12th ended things for UIndy.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-The Hounds are now 0-2 in extra-inning games on the young season.
-Reid Werner joins Corey Bates as the only two UIndy starters to get seven or more strikeouts in a start this season.
-Macy Holdsworth came back with a strong game in the series finale. After totaling two hits yesterday, the senior came back with a 4-for-6 performance today.
