INDIANAPOLIS- The #10 UIndy women's tennis team opened its 2019 season Wednesday afternoon with a 5-2 win at crosstown IUPUI.

The Greyhounds took the doubles point going 2-1 in the tandem portion of the match. After a loss at #3 doubles, UIndy bounced back with the #16 pair of Hanna Volikova and Maja Pindelska taking a 6-4 win at #2 doubles, and the #1 doubles squad of Nikol Alexeeva and Anya Novikova closing out the doubles point win with a 7-6 (7-3) victory.

UIndy took the first four singles matches to earn the 5-2 match victory. Volikova, ranked #4 in NCAA Division II, was the first to finish, taking a 6-3, 6-1 win at #1 singles. Novikova secured the third UIndy point, besting her IUPUI opponent 7-5, 6-0.  
  
Alexeeva, the #19 ranked singles player in Division II, went to three sets with her Jaguar opponent, but pulled out the victory 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at #2 singles to account for the fourth Greyhound point. Pindelska, playing in the 4 singles spot, also had to come from behind to take her win. The junior transfer came back from a 1-6 first set to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-2, to take the fifth match point and ice the win for the Hounds.

Next up for UIndy is a Friday match with another crosstown Division I foe, Butler. The match will be the home opener for UIndy, and begins at 4 p.m. at the UIndy Tennis Center. The Greyhounds are also at home Sunday, hosting Eastern Illinois in a 2 p.m. match.
