BELMONT, N.C. – After nearly a month without a single road game, the No. 6 UIndy men's lacrosse team (5-1) got off to a slow start on Thursday afternoon at No. 11 Belmont Abbey (7-1) as the Hounds dropped their first game of the season, 13-10.
Â
The Greyhounds failed to maintain any momentum, trailing 9-4 at the break after allowing six goals in the opening quarter.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a pair of quick Crusader goals,
Parker Kump put the Hounds on the board less than four minutes into the contest. Once
Parker Johnson found the back of the net at the 5:56 mark of the opening quarter, UIndy would remain scoreless for the next 12-and-a-half minutes until Kump tallied his second of the game.
Â
Belmont Abbey built a 9-4 lead at halftime on the heels of goalkeeper Bryce Gifford, who totaled 12 saves on the day.
Â
The Hounds made a late push in the final quarter, outscoring the Crusaders 4-1, but ran out of time as the deficit proved too large.
Matthew Johnson began the scoring in the final 15 minutes, while
Brian Robb added on his third score late in the period.
