Kump Sets Assist Record at Alabama Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Parker Kump dished out a program-record five assists on Saturday to pace the UIndy men's lacrosse team (6-1, 2-0 GLVC) to a bounce-back win at Alabama Huntsville (1-5, 0-1 GLVC). The Greyhounds scored 12 times in the opening half to cruise to a 18-8 victory.
 
Drew Billig and Parker Johnson each recorded a hat trick in the win, while scooped up four ground balls and caused one turnover.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Billig wasted no time on Saturday, scoring in the first 53 seconds to give the Hounds the early advantage. After nearly eight minutes since the opening goal, Shawn Kimble and Kump netted a pair scores within 81 seconds to pull ahead late in the quarter.
 
UIndy used a big second frame to put themselves in complete control heading into halftime, finding the back of the cage on seven occasions. Johnson scored three times, including the final goal of the half with three second remaining. Robbie Berardi – who went 13-of-17 on the faceoff against the Chargers, also scooped up the ground ball with just over a minute left and tallied his third goal of the season.
 
The second half was dominated by the Hounds, as well, limiting the Chargers to just three goals. Keeper Jarod Kimble made 10 saves in 45 minutes of action, while Billig proved valuable on the ride with a pair of caused turnovers. Jack Johnson scored twice in the final two quarters, wile Vitto Cancilla, Blake Donnelly, and Jake Zickel also got in the scoring column.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Kump surpassed three previous Hounds who had handed out four helpers in a game prior to Saturday, as the senior dished out five to add to his two goals. The Surrey, British Columbia product last recorded three assists on March 17, 2017 against Maryville. Kump is now just 14 points from matching his own single-season record of 46 in 2017.
 
Kimble's 10 saves marks the 12th time in the former All-American's career he has stopped double-digit shots. Overall, the Hounds made 12 stops, as Austin Bartell recorded two in the fourth quarter.
 
Nine Greyhounds picked up two ground balls in the win, while Berardi (5) and Basch (4) led the team in the category.
 
UP NEXT
UIndy will close out its road trip next weekend at No. 10 Lindenwood. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. in St. Charles, Mo.
