Smock inducted into Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame

NEW CASTLE, Ind. – UIndy men's hoops legend Bob Smock will be inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame on Wednesday evening, becoming the third Greyhound to be honored by the organization. The 58th men's induction class, Smock is one of 12 players to be recognized in 2019.

Smock played from 1965-69 for what was then known as Indiana Central College, and currently ranks 14th in program history with 607 rebounds and 27th with 1,203 career points. The Hebron, Ind. native joins Bailey Robertson (1990) and Bill Hampton (2017) as fellow Hounds in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

With Smock, ICC earned a bid to the NAIA National Tournament on three occasions, including his senior season. He led the Greyhounds in field-goal percentage as a junior in 1967-68, shooting 55.4 percent from the floor on 202 attempts. He played in 106 games for ICC, which is tied for 13th-most in program history.

Smock played under head coach Angus Nicoson, who won 486 games in 29-plus seasons on the Greyhound bench.

As a prep star, Smock scored nearly 1,600 points at Hebron, winning the conference Most Valuable Player award his final three seasons. After graduating from ICC, Smock was a coach, teacher, and counselor at four schools in Northwest Indiana.
