INDIANAPOLIS- The UIndy women's tennis team, courtesy of a perfect 13-0 record thus far on the season made the jump from #9 to #2 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, released Tuesday. The UIndy men stayed in the top 20, with a move to #19 in the team poll.
The #2 ranking is the highest ever for either a men's or women's team in program history, with this year's edition of UIndy women's tennis riding a 13-match win streak into Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend. The Greyhounds have knocked off the then-#4 and #17 teams in the Division II, and five Division I teams en route to the 13-0 record.
Individually, freshman Nikol Aleexeva moved from #19 in the singles rankings to #15, while
Hanna Volikova slipped two spots to #6. Alexeeva and fellow freshman
Anya Novikova held strong to the #4 doubles ranking, while the three doubles tandem of
Chloe Weihs and
Anna Valiaeva jumped into the rankings at #30. Volikova and partner
Maja Pindelska fell from #16, but stayed in the rankings at #41.
For the men, one singles'
Renato Lima improved two spots from #5 to #3, while
Nils Hoffacker also moved up from his #32 spot in the singles poll to #29 in the newest ranking. On the doubles court, the one doubles pair of
Matej Kostadinov and
Dario Huber moved two spots up from #6 to #4.
The Greyhounds carry their rankings into GLVC play this weekend, with both the men's and women's squads making the trip to Lebanon, Ill., for a match with the Bearcats of McKendree. The Greyhound men come into the GLVC season as the defending champions of the league, while the women were runners up a season ago.
