INDIANAPOLIS – The 20th-ranked UIndy softball team (20-8, 3-3 GLVC) got its first game action on its home field this spring, trading wins with conference-foe Quincy University on Saturday. The Greyhounds earned a 7-4 win in game one before losing the capper, 5-4, in extra innings.

The Hounds got all the offense they needed in the second and third innings, hanging three runs on the board in both frames.
Shannon Schuetz,
Kamrie Foster and
Brooke Montgomery each had an RBI in the second, while Schuetz added a three-run homer in the third.

Sophomore pitcher
Halie Waters (10-4) no-hit the Hawks for four complete innings before giving up a leadoff double in the fifth. She would ultimately get the win after pitching the first five innings as well as the seventh, surrendering a single unearned run while striking out four.

Quincy 5, #20 UIndy 4 (9 inn.)
Leading 3-0 heading into the seventh inning, it appeared the Hounds would complete the sweep. However, with one on and two down, the Hawks coaxed a walk and a single, setting the stage for QU sophomore Katelyn Gratza, who smashed a grand slam to give the visitors a 4-3 edge.
Â
UIndy forced extras with an RBI double by
Hanna Burris in the bottom of the seventh, but Quincy's Audrey Hermann delivered another clutch homer, as her ninth-inning solo shot proved to be the game winner.
Â
Junior
Lauren Honkomp (8-3) pitched all nine frames for UIndy, striking out seven and walking four. She twice came one strike away from completing her second consecutive shutout.
Â
Burris finished with three hits, two ribbies and a stolen base in the capper, while
Sydnie Foster added a double and a bunt single. The latter was stranded on third base in the bottom of the ninth.
