INDIANAPOLIS – The  20th-ranked UIndy softball team (24-8) drifted out of conference play with a mid-week doubleheader versus in-region Lake Erie College (6-12) Wednesday afternoon at Baumgartner Field. The Greyhounds run-ruled the visiting Storm in both contests, winning 10-2 and 8-0 in five and six innings, respectively.
Â
Sophomore
Gianni Iannantone went a combined 4-for-5 with two homers and six RBIs on the day.

The Hounds jumped on the Storm early and often, scoring two runs in the first inning, four in the second and four in the third.
Taylor Podschweit and Iannantone provided the fireworks with back-to-back jacks in the second-inning rally.
Â
Sydnie Foster added a two-run single in the third, while her sisters
Haylie Foster and
Kamrie Foster as well as
Brooke Montgomery each had two hits.
Â
Sophomore
Halie Waters upped her pitching record to 12-4, striking out seven and allowing just one run in three innings. Senior
Katelyn Fisher got the final six outs in her first appearance since March 12.

#20 UIndy 8, Lake Erie 0 (6 inn.)
With junior
Lauren Honkomp dealing in the circle, the UIndy offense had more of the same in store for Lake Erie in game two. The Hounds sprinted to a 5-0 lead after two innings, with early RBIs coming from Iannantone (3),
Hanna Burris (1) and S. Foster (1).
Â
Iannantone would deliver at least one ribbie in each of her three at bats in the capper, including a solo home run in the fifth inning. Later, Podschweit would walk it off with a two-run double in the sixth.
Â
Meanwhile, Honkomp notched her second shutout of the season, tossing a two-hitter while striking out six and walking only one. She is 10-3 on the year and recently moved into fifth place in the UIndy annals in career wins.
