INDIANAPOLIS- The #6 UIndy women's tennis team recorded its eighth-straight shutout and 20th-straight win with a 4-0 defeat of Illinois Springfield Saturday morning to advance to Sunday's 2019 GLVC Women's Tennis Championship.
The shutout was the 13th of the season for the Greyhounds (20-0). UIndy captured the doubles point in just more than 25 minutes, with the one doubles duo of
Nikol Alexeeva and
Anya Novikova blanking the Prairie Stars 6-0. The three doubles tandem of
Maja Pindelska and
Anna Valiaeva then won 6-1 a few minutes later to put UIndy up 1-0 heading into singles.
Novikova was the first to take a win on the singles court, taking a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Alexeeva pushed the Greyhounds to a 3-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-4 win in the two singles match, with
Hanna Volikova icing the UIndy victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win at one singles.Â
The Greyhounds, who have previously earned GLVC tournament championships in 2015 and 2017, make their return to the championship title match after a one-year absence. UIndy has claimed a GLVC-record 10 GLVC tournament titles in league history. The 2019 GLVC Women's Tennis Championship, in which the Greyhounds will face Bellarmine, will be played at 12 p.m. outdoors at Center Grove High School.
