GREENWOOD, Ind.- For the fourth year in a row, the UIndy men's tennis team has won the GLVC Championship, overcoming Drury 4-0 Sunday at Center Grove High School.
The #24 Greyhounds (15-5) won the GLVC for a league-record 11th time, and faced the Panthers in the GLVC finale for the fourth-straight year. With Sunday's shutout win, UIndy did not allow a point by any team in its run to the 2019 GLVC title.
The three doubles pair of
Nils Hoffacker and
Maximilian Witthaus took the first win of the day, 6-4. After the Hounds dropped the one doubles match 5-7, the two doubles pair of
Magnus Mueller and
Renato Lima won the tiebreaker 7-5 (2) to give UIndy the doubles point.
Dario Huber posted the first point on the singles court for the Greyhounds, taking a 6-3, 6-1 win playing three. Hoffacker took the third UIndy point with a 6-1, 6-3 win at two singles, with freshman
Ariel Farji clinching the fourth point and the match for the Greyhounds with a 6-2, 6-3 win at five singles.Â
With the conference tournament in the books, UIndy now awaits the NCAA DIvision II championship selections May 7. The NCAA Division II Regional will be played May 13-14 on campus sites.
