Greyhounds Advance to GLVC Final for Second Straight Season

INDIANAPOLIS – After trailing by one early, the top-seed No. 6 UIndy men's lacrosse team (13-1) kicked it into high gear to rout fourth-seeded Montevallo (6-9), 17-6, to begin the 2019 GLVC Championship Tournament from Key Stadium.

Robbie Berardi controlled play at the x, securing 16-of-21 faceoff attempts, while senior netminder Jarod Kimble made seven saves on 10 Montevallo shots on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons grabbed 2-1 advantage before the Greyhounds scored the next 10 goals to end the half. Parker Johnson scored twice in that stretch, while Brian Robb tallied a hat trick in the opening 30 minutes.

With an 11-2 lead, the Greyhounds cruised in the second half before eventually winning, 17-6. Luke Allen and Jake Zickel got into the scoring column, as Parker Kump netted three of his four goals in the final two quarters.

Jordan McKenzie led the Greyhound defense, causing two turnovers and scooping up three ground balls.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Freshman Drew Billig was not deterred by his first postseason contest, handing out three assists on his way to totaling five points. The rookie also picked up four ground balls.

Matthew Johnson also recorded five points, dishing out four helpers in the win.

Kyle Basch scooped up four ground balls, while recording a pair of assists. The freshman ranks first among UIndy first-year players in the category.

Sunday will mark the second straight GLVC championship appearance, with the league sponsoring the sport since just 2018. Last season, the Greyhounds downed Young Harris in the final at Key Stadium.

HOUND BYTES
"We didn't play our best game down there a couple weeks ago," head coach Greg Stocks said after the game on GLVCSN. "Today we made more plays defensively and got some more saves, and that was big turning point."

Kimble also joined Harrison Silcox on the broadcast, saying his mindset for Sunday is just to win. "Win it for the seniors, win it for every player that's been here; we want back-to-back GLVC championships."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds await the winner of Rockhurst-Maryville to determine the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
