INDIANAPOLIS – Sophomore
Halie Waters recorded her first no-hitter as a Greyhound Saturday, leading the 17th-ranked UIndy softball team to a pair of victories versus GLVC-rival Lewis University. Waters blanked the visiting Flyers, 4-0, in game one, and the Greyhounds erased a four-run deficit to take game two, 7-4.
UIndy 4, Lewis 0
Waters recorded the first no-hitter by a Greyhound since teammate
Lauren Honkomp's no-no last May. She actually faced the minimum 21 batters as a 5-4-3 double play erased the Flyers' only base runner, who reached vying a walk in the fourth inning. Waters finished with six strikeouts, seven fly outs and seven ground outs to move to 14-6 on the season.
Meanwhile, the UIndy offense needed just four hits to generate four runs. Sophomore
Haylie Foster had a two-run single in the second and
Gianni Iannantone roped an RBI double in the sixth.

The capper provided a different kind of drama, as the Hounds fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first before going on the win. UIndy answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first, then tacked on one more in the bottom of the second to retake the lead.
Hanna Burris scored two runs in the early going, while she, Iannantone, H. Foster,
Brooke Montgomery and
Sydnie Foster all notched a double in one of the first two innings.
Iannantone, who finished game two 3-for-4 with four RBIs, provided the dagger with a two-run double in the sixth.
Starting pitcher
Lauren Honkomp (14-3) battled through 6 1/3 innings to get the "W", and with one down and the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, Waters returned to the circle to retire the final two batters and earn her third save of the year.
Honkomp has now won seven consecutive decisions.
