INDIANAPOLIS- UIndy freshmen Nikol Alexeeva and Maximilian Witthaus have been named the 2019 ITA Midwest Region Rookies of the Year,.

Alexeeva, also named the 2019 GLVC Freshman of the Year, is currently ranked #10 in the ITA NCAA DIvision II singles ranking, and along with Anya Novikova is currently at #6 in the ITA doubles rankings. The freshman is a sparkling 20-0 on the singles court this season, playing both #2 and #1 throughout the year. Six of those 20 victories have come 6-0, 6-0, with only two of the wins (both against Division I opponents) taking three sets. Alexeeva and Novikova are 17-2 in doubles play, with both losses coming to Division I squads early in the season, with the duo having not lost since Feb. 23.

Witthaus, a second-semester addition to the UIndy squad, is 10-3 on the singles court, playing at the #5 and #6 spots. Playing with senior Nils Hoffacker at three doubles, the pair are 9-1, with their lone loss coming to Division I Western Michigan. Witthaus was also the GLVC's Freshman of the Year.

Both the Greyhound men and women will head South for next week's 2019 NCAA Division II Tennis Championships, in Altamonte, Fla. The undefeated (22-0) UIndy women will open the event as the field's #2 seed and will play #15-seed Goldey Beacom May 22 at 2 p.m., while the Greyhound men are the bracket's 10 seed, and will get a chance to avenge one of their regular season losses in a showdown with seven-seed Midwestern State May 21 at 4 p.m.
