ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.- With a 4-0 win over 15-seed Goldey-Beacon, the UIndy women's tennis team advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division II Tennis Championships for the first time in program history.
The Greyhounds took the doubles point in just 26 minutes, with
Alina Kislitskaya and
Hanna Volikova striking first with a 6-0 win in the two doubles match.
Nikol Alexeeva and
Anya Novikova clinched the doubles point for the Hounds shortly after, with a 6-1 win at one doubles.
With the early lead in the back, the Greyhounds also dominated singles play. With history on the line, UIndy took all six opening sets. ITA Midwest Regional Rookie of the Year,
Nikol Alexeeva, was the first to finish winning 6-1/6-1 to give the Greyhounds a 2-0 advantage. Fellow freshman
Anya Novikova brought the #6 ranked team in the country within one point of reaching the quarterfinals, winning 6-1/6-2 at the number 3 spot. Senior
Hanna Volikova was the clinching match with a 6-0/6-1 victory at the number 1 singles spot to punch the ticket to the Elite 8 for the first time in program history.Â
This was the 16th shoutout for the Hounds this season. With this win, the Greyhounds improve their impeccable season to 23-0.
The Greyhounds are now set for a rematch against Northwest Missouri State. The Hounds beat The Bearcats earlier in the season, 7-0 back at the beginning of March.
