Hounds Hoard GLVC Year-End Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – Accolades poured in for the UIndy women's golf team Tuesday with the announcement of the Great Lakes Valley Conference year-end honors. The Greyhounds garnered three major awards, including Player of the Year honors for Pilar Echeverria, Freshman of the Year accolades for Cailyn Henderson and Coach of the Year laurels for Brent Nicoson. In addition, senior Kennedy Holtsclaw added to the list of All-GLVC performers and was also named the team's James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award nominee.

Echeverria's award is an historic one, as the Guatemala City product becomes the first-ever student-athlete to garner three consecutive GLVC Women's Golf Player of the Year honors. A unanimous selection as the league's top player, she also set the league record for most GLVC Player of the Week awards in a season (5). Her program marks currently include most individual wins in a season (6) and lowest single-season scoring average (71.9).

25526Henderson (left) became the ninth Greyhounds selected as the GLVC Freshman of the Year, joining teammates Echeverria (2017) and Katharina Keilich (2016). A unanimous pick as the top GLVC rookie, Henderson earned All-GLVC honors with a runner-up showing at the conference tournament, one of three top-fives on the year. She currently averages 76.7 strokes per round.

Nicoson has been chosen by his peers as GLVC Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive season and seventh time in his eight years as the UIndy women's coach. The Greyhounds have won the conference championship each season under his tutelage, including a GLVC title last month by a league-record 53 strokes.

Holtsclaw collected her first career All-GLVC nod in her final collegiate season. She was one of five student-athletes to earn the honor via coaches vote, joining the three aforementioned Greyhounds, who earned all-conference accolades with top-five finishes at GLVCs. A native of Bedford, Ind., Holtsclaw ranks second on the team with a 75.5 scoring average and has two individual wins to her credit this season.
