LAWRENCE, KS – The Greyhound swimming & diving teams sent their distance crew out to Lawrence, Kansas to compete at Kansas University's CSCAA Open Water National Championships. The men finished second overall in the 5,000 meter swim, and the women ended the day 13th in the field.
Indianapolis' men featured three student-athletes in the top ten, the most out of any team entered in the meet.
Stanislaw Chalat let the way for the Greyhounds, the freshman placing seventh on a final time of 1:02:05.9. Freshman counterpart
Christian Hedeen crossed the finish right after, earning a 1:02.31.3 time for eighth place overall. Junior
Cody Liske rounded out the top 10 with a 1:03.08.5 time, slotting him in at 10th overall. The Greyhounds as a team stayed strong the entire race, only three points behind the first place finisher.
"This meet was a great experience for the distance crew" explains head coach
Jason Hite, "Stainslaw, Hedeen and Liske placing top 10 is a very positive achievement, and the women swam well in a very competitive field."
Laura Boardman led the Greyhounds in the women's 5,000 kilometer race, finishing on a time of 1:09:25.9 for 42nd.
Melanie Arnold (1:13:29.1) and
Katie Thomas (1:13:49.3) also raced well for Indianapolis.
The Greyhounds will continue to prepare for the upcoming season, hosting the annual Crimson & Grey Intrasquad meet in two weeks. The meet will take place at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center at 10 a.m. on September 28.
