INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy football team continued a tradition nearly as old as the game itself Monday by announcing its team captains for the 2019 season.
Clay Hadley,
Alex Parsons,
Maurice Robinson and
Jacob Schmatz were voted by their peers to assume the team's official leadership roles for the year.
Â
"The team did a really good job of picking out the leaders," said first-year head coach
Chris Keevers. "Those guys were here all summer and worked their tails off, and they are the guys that are going to lead during the season. Those four guys represent our football team pretty well."
Â
Three of the four captains were tabbed All-GLVC last season, including a second consecutive first-team nod for both Haley and Schmatz. Parson garnered All-GLVC Honorable Mention in 2018, while Robinson is looking for his first all-conference honor this season. Three of the four student-athletes are seniors, with Hadley being the lone junior.
Â
Looking for a seventh GLVC crown in eight years, the quartet of captains and the rest of the Greyhounds will kick off the 2019 UIndy football season this week with a key in-region contest. The Hounds will travel to Ashland University this Thursday, Sept. 5 for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. A complete preview is set to post on UIndyAthletics.com Tuesday morning.
