110 Minutes Not Enough as Greyhounds Draw with McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. – After suffering their first loss of the season Friday night at USI, the UIndy women's soccer team was back in action Sunday afternoon at McKendree. UIndy scored early before the Bearcats matched, the teams needed 110 minutes before the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds came out aggressive against the Bearcats, pushing the ball in McKendree territory early on. It only took until the game's fifth minute for the Hounds to find the back of the net. Freshman Maria Herrero notched her second goal early on in her collegiate career. The Spain native took a pass in the box from Kaylee Zimbelmann playing back in her home state to take the early 1-nil lead. With the half winding down, McKendree took advantage of the Greyhound defense out of place close to the goal, putting the ball in the upper right corner to tie the game at one goal apiece at the break.

Defense was strong for both teams early on in the second half. UIndy did not get their first shot on target until the game's 70th minute when Herrero tried to give the Hounds the lead before the McKendree keeper was able to make the save to keep the game knotted at one. The Bearcats came out in the first overtime period aggressive, getting the ball into UIndy territory quickly. They came up empty though as Sophia Saucerman made a diving save to keep the game alive for the Hounds. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the extra time, sending the Hounds to 3-1-1 on the season.
