Hounds Keep Hawks Grounded in 1-0 Win

QUINCY, Ill. – After grinding out a tough 1-0 win over Truman Friday night, the UIndy women's soccer team had a quick turnaround, traveling to Quincy to face the Hawks Sunday afternoon. The Hounds continued their shutout streak, notching a 1-0 win over Quincy to move to 5-1-1 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks came out aggressive in the opening half, threatening in UIndy territory for several minutes early. Junior goalkeeper Laura Shake was not phased, making saves to keep Quincy off the board. After that brief period, Quincy did not get another shot on frame in the period while the Hounds became the aggressors, but unable to put points on the board before the half ended. The last 20 minutes saw five different Greyhounds getting a shot on goal, while Maria Herrero had a shot blocked in the box as well.

UIndy came out in the second half playing how they did late in the first half, firing away at the goal. The Hounds saw two more players register shots on target while Taylor Peck put two shots on goal within seconds of each other. The Hounds were knocking on the door, trying to put the ball in the back of the net. The breakthrough happened in the 58th minute when Herrero scored her third goal of the season, her second in the last three games, to put the Hounds up 1-nil. The UIndy defense was suffocating down the stretch, not allowing a Quincy shot as the Hounds went on to win, 1-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Sunday's game was the third game this season UIndy tallied double digit shots on goal while also holding their opponent a mere two shots on goal.
-Seven Greyhounds registered shots on frame against the Hawks, with Taylor Peck accounting for four by herself.
-Chipping in with an assist on the Herrero goal was Peck and Amanda Meyer. Meyer's 8th point of the year moves her into the top-five in points scored in the GLVC this season.
