KENOSHA, Wisc. – The UIndy women's soccer team opened their 2019 campaign Thursday afternoon with a convincing win over Parkside in Wisconsin. The Greyhounds took a 2-0 lead into the half and added two more goals in the second half to win today's game 4-nil over the Rangers.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds took the lead early on with a goal from
Taylor Peck. Peck took a pass from freshman Lexie Hardie in the box to take the 1-0 lead. The Hounds came right back minutes later when sophomore
Kaylee Zimbelmann converted a PK to give UIndy the 2-0 lead. The Greyhounds came out of the break firing away when returning all-GLVC selection
Amanda Meyer scored her first goal of the season in just the second minute of the second half. UIndy was not done after Meyer's score and neither was
Taylor Peck. Peck scored her second goal on the day in the 73rd minute to cap off UIndy's 4-0 win over the Rangers.
Â
Between the pipes for the Greyhounds today was freshman
Sophia Saucerman. The freshman from Indianapolis only faced two shots from the Rangers, saving them both for her first clean sheer as a Greyhound.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-After today's shutout, the Hounds have not allowed a goal in a season opener since 2015 against Ursuline.
-
Taylor Peck's two goals on the day makes it two straight years that UIndy has had a player score multiple goals in a season opener, joining
Ashleigh Lewis who put up a hat trick last season.
-The Hounds held Parkside to just two shots on goal on the afternoon, the fewest amount of shots of goal they have allowed since holding Drury to one shot on target last season.
