LEBANON, Ill. – The No. 16 UIndy men's basketball team (10-3, 2-3 GLVC) led by as many as 19 points late in the first half, but the host McKendree Bearcats (8-5, 3-2 GLVC) roared back after the break to knock off their third ranked team of the season, 78-74.
Â
Three Greyhounds finished with 16 points, while McKendree senior Logan Kohrmann tallied a game-high 26 points in the upset.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy dominated most of the opening 20 minutes, as
Marcus Latham came off the bench to score 11 of his 16 in the half. A free throw from
Jacob Polakovich at the 5:05 mark stretched the Greyhound lead to 19 before the Bearcats ended the half on an 18-4 run, including a buzzer-beating half-court shot from Kohrmann to inch within five at the break.
Â
The Greyhounds were unable to pull away in the second half, but gripped to a two-point lead with just five minutes remaining. Its 62-60 advantage was the final time UIndy would have the upper hand, as a pair of triples from McKendree's Oliver Stephen and JaKobie Robinson gave the hosts a commanding 75-68 lead with under two minutes remaining.
Â
Senior
Jimmy King drilled five straight points with less than 60 ticks left, including a 3-pointer to get the Greyhounds within a pair, but McKendree sunk free throws down the stretch to win, 78-74.
