Wrestling goes 3-1 at Tracy Borah Duals

GUNNISON, Colo.- The UIndy Wrestling team opened the 2020 calendar year with a 3-1 day at Western Colorado's Tracy Borah duals. The Greyhounds took wins against Colorado-Pueblo, Colorado-Mesa, and New Mexico Highlands, and lost to the host Mountaineers.

UIndy 26 - Colorado-Pueblo 12
UIndy jumped out to a quick start versus the Thunderwolves, taking wins at 125, 133, 141 and 149. A pin from Chase Wilkerson at 133 highlighted the early surge, with the true-freshman sticking D'Andre Brumfield in 6:01. After CSU-Pueblo took wins at 157 and 165, Gleason Mappes added another six points with a pin of Brendon Kelly in 4:21 at 174 to push the UIndy lead 23-6. #9 Brody Conner put the final Greyhound points on the board at 184 with an 8-1 win over Jayson Davis. After the Thunderwolves took wins at the final two weights, the team score stood 26-12.

UIndy 31 - Colorado-Mesa 15
After a Mavrick win at 125, the Greyhounds strung together four straight wins to jump to a 21-3 lead. Wilkerson came away with another fall, in 1:51 over Bracken Lovell, while Matt McKinney followed with his second seven-minute tech fall at 141. Colorado-Mesa took a win at 165, but Mappes put the Hounds back in the win column with a pin in 4:30 at 174 of Seth Latham, after UIndy forfeited the 184 match, Zach Fry came away with a major decision 18-6 at 197 to close out the UIndy score at 31. Mesa took the heavyweight bout to run the final score to 31-15.

Western Colorado 30 - UIndy 17
The first Greyhound loss of the day was highlighted by a 3-1 win in SV-1 at 125 by Ana Abduljelil in his debut at the weight for the season. The 2017 national qualifier at 125 defeated #3 Patrick Allis with a takedown just 45 seconds into the overtime.  Dawson Combest came away with the other highlight of the dual, a pin in 1:57 of Cole Mortensen. 

UIndy 28 - New Mexico Highlands 11
Two falls opened the match for the Hounds versus the Cowboys, with Nick Brady pinning in 1:44 and Wilkerson coming away with his third pin of the day in 4:25 at 133. After a New Mexico Highlands win at 141, UIndy took victories at 149 through 174. Mappes' major decision at 174 garnered the most points in that stretch for the Hounds, and pushed the score to 25-3. Fry again came away with the final points of the match for UIndy, with the final score showing as 28-11.

The Greyhounds return home next Wednesday for their first home dual of the season. The Roughnecks of Findlay come to the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center for a 7 p.m. Region 3 tilt, with UIndy welcoming all local high school programs for High School Night.
