INDIANAPOLIS- In the preseason edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Top 25 poll, the Greyhound women sit at #4 nationally, while the UIndy men come in at #12 amongst NCAA Division II's top 25 teams.
In addition to the national recognition, both UIndy's teams sit atop their respective Midwest Regional team polls. Both teams won regional titles a season ago.
The UIndy women, off of a run to the NCAA Division II semifinals a season ago, return five of the six singles players from that historical squad, in addition to reloading with a pair of freshmen and a transfer. Last year's GLVC Freshman of the Year,
Nikol Alekseeva, highlights the returning Greyhounds to the lineup.
The Greyhound men closed out their season in the Sweet 16 a season ago, falling by a 3-4 score to Midwestern State. UIndy's doubles duo of
Renato Lima and
Dario Huber return for the Hounds, however, and took an ITA Cup Super Bowl title this past fall. The UIndy men are a new-look squad this year, with three of last year's singles lineup graduating. In addition to Lima and Huber, four new Greyhounds joined the team at semester.
UIndy's men open their season Jan. 31 v. DePauw at the UIndy Tennis Center, while the Greyhound women will be across town at Butler that same day to kick off their 2020 season.
