KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UIndy men's basketball senior Jimmy King was named to the Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award Watch List, Small College Basketball and the National Awards Committee announced on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Roncalli product is currently averaging 13.0 points, 6.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game during his senior campaign. In addition, King has totaled 17 steals and one block on the defensive end. But it's more than just his numbers that allows him to lead his team to a No. 23 national ranking and 10-3 start to this season.
 
"Jimmy's leadership is the reason for our team's success," said UIndy head coach Stan Gouard. "He's about making others better as a result of his presence on and off the court."
 
King is one of 100 players recognized by the organization that are spread throughout NCAA Division II, NCAA Division II, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. The Indianapolis native is also one of five players from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) selected, and one of six from the Midwest region.
 
"Everyone gravitates to him because he is the guy everyone follows," Gouard concluded.
 
The list will be cut down to 50 players on February 15, before shrinking once again to 25 on March 15. The finalists will be announced on April 4 prior to the winner being crowned on April 6.
 
Previous winners include Dominez Burnett of Davenport University in 2016, Justin Pitts of Northwest Missouri State University in 2017, Emanuel Terry of Lincoln Memorial University in 2018, and Aston Francis of Wheaton College in 2019.
