UMSL Holds Off UIndy in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After a big comeback win Thursday night, the UIndy women's basketball team was back in action today facing Missouri-St. Louis on the road. The game was tightly contested for nearly three whole quarters before the Tritons pulled away late in the third before holding UIndy off in the fourth to win 81-71 in the Mark Twain Building.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first period belonged to UIndy as the offense was firing on all cylinders in the early goings. The Greyhound offense put up 23 points on 71.4 percent shooting. Roles flip-flopped in the second quarter as the UMSL offense picked up and the UIndy offense cooled off in the second stanza. The Hounds offense went through Laura Thomas and Paige Barrett in the first half, Thomas putting up 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting and Barrett backed her up with nine points of her own as UMSL took a 40-36 lead into the half.

Neither team could pull away from the other throughout much of the third quarter. The Tritons were able to find gaps in the UIndy defense and force a couple Greyhound turnovers on their way to closing out the period on a 10-2 run to go into the final frame leading 57-51. UMSL kept up their hot shooting in the fourth quarter as they were able to hold off the Hounds comeback efforts, winning their second GLVC game this season by a score of 81-71.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy shot over 50 percent from the field for the third time this season, but are now 2-1 when shooting 50 percent or better in a game.
-The Tritons had their way on the boards Saturday afternoon, out-rebounding the Hounds 38 to 23. It's the most UIndy has bene out-rebounded all season.
-Junior Taylor Drury played nine minutes in the loss, the first time she saw game time since the team's win over Purdue Northwest last month. The Pekin, Ind., native was efficient with her time on the floor in the first half, nailing a three-pointer from the corner just before the half.

UP NEXT
The Hounds wrap up their stint of three games in six days with a rare Monday evening game. UIndy will travel down to Louisville, Ky., to face Bellarmine at 5:45 p.m. ET
