ON TAP
Coming off a signature win at top-ranked Bellarmine on Monday, the Greyhounds host a pair of quality conference opponents this weekend. Drury invades Nicoson Hall Thursday night, folowed by a Saturday matinee against Southwest Baptist.
The Greyhounds are a combined 8-12 against their upcoming opponents, including a 6-9 mark against Drury. UIndy has not faced GLVC-newbie Southwest Baptist since 2002.
ABOUT DRURY
Drury sports an 11-5 overall record this season, including a 4-4 effort inside GLVC play. The Panthers have totaled nine wins against NCAA DII programs, with in-region victories over Lake Superior State and Trevecca. Their four losses have come by a total of 24 points, while the Panthers' wins have been split by a pair of six-point victories and two 21-point triumphs.Â
Reigning All-GLVC First Teamer Conley Garrison leads the Panthers in his junior campaign with 15.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg and 5.7 apg in nearly 35 minutes each game. Fellow junior Cal Hartley is the lone other Panther in double figures with 13.9 ppg, with other three players averaging more than 8.0 ppg. Obi Okafor (4.6 rpg) and Isaac Johnson (2.8 apg) rank second on the team in their respective stat category.Â
Head coach Steve Hesser is in his 16th season in Springfield. Drury's all-time wins leader, Hesser led the Panthers to the 2012-13 national title and earned NABC Coach of the Year distinction.
HOUNDS V. PANTHERS
Drury owns the all-time series - which began in 2006 - with nine wins in 15 games against UIndy. However, the Greyhounds have won four of the past six contests, including the last three regular season battles from 2017-19.Â
In last year's one-point win at Drury, senior
Jesse Kempson surpassed 1,000 career points to become the 41st Greyhound to ever do so.
Trevor Lakes led the team with 21 points, but it was
Jimmy King who drilled a pair of free throws with four seconds left to give the Greyhounds a 71-70 victory.Â
ABOUT SOUTHWEST BAPTIST
Competing in the GLVC for the first time this season, the Bearcats head into the week with a 6-2 mark in conference play and in third place in the GLVC point rating standings. Overall, SBU is 13-3 this season, and picked up a win over Southern Indiana when it was ranked No. 12 in the NABC coaches poll.
SBU competed previously in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA or "M-I-double-A).
Six-foot-six guard Brady Smith leads the team at 15.9 points per game, while Australian-import Damian Prgomet ranks second in the GLVC at 7.9 rebounds per. At print time, all five members of the SBU starting lineup average double figures in points, while no bench player averages more than five points per game.
Head coach Clark Sheehy is in his sixth season in Bolivar, having previously led the Bearcats to four MIAA tournament appearances. Prior to SBU, Sheehy spent seven seasons as the head coach at NAIA John Brown College.
HOUNDS V. BEARCATS
The series between UIndy and Southwest Baptist has a short history - just three games between the progams - but dates back to the 1988-89 season. The Greyhounds and Bearcats split the first two contests before the series resumed in 2002, when UIndy edged SBU by eighth points at Nicoson Hall in a November non-conference bout.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hounds came away with a thrilling 81-76 overtime win versus No. 1 Bellarmine Monday. The Knights overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to force OT, but UIndy allowed zero field goals and just two points in the final four minutes of extra time to came away with the victory in what may well be its final regular season appearance in Knights Hall. Bellarmine is moving out of the Great Lakes Valley Conference in 2020-21 to begin its transition to NCAA Division I.
BIG WAVES
Junior
Trevor Lakes amassed team-high totals with 17 points and 10 rebounds at Bellarmine, good for his first double-double of the season and second of his career. His previous such output came in a 19-point, 16-rebound performance versus Quincy last January.
Jacob Polakovich is the only other Greyhound to record a double-double this season, as the sophomore big man has a pair of DDs in his credit, both versus ranked teams (USI & UMSL).
