GRANSVILLE, Ohio – In the final dual meet before the championships season, the UIndy swimming & diving teams took a trip to Denison University and competed against the Division III teams on Friday night. The women took down the Buzzards 162 – 112, and the men pulled ahead early to dominate 210.5 – 63.5.
"Today was a unique opportunity for our teams," stated Assistant Coach
Brent Noble, "We competed in a new pool against a squad that has won multiple titles in DIII, and we continued sharpening ourselves mentally and physically."
The Greyhounds featured eight different student-athletes that took home multiple victories, while 17 overall claimed an event between the two teams. Diving once again showed to be one of the strongest groups on the team, breaking two school records in the process.
Cassie Kury took a victory on both the one and three-meter boards in the meet, breaking her own record in the women's one-meter. Kury reached 300.38 points in her set, marking her as the only UIndy women's diver to score more than 300 points in six dives.
Cade Hammond continued his dominance on the three-meter board this season, as the freshman topped the men's event with 375.60 points. His total on Friday eclipsed his school record in the event, passing it by about 9.55 points.
Victor Antonon reigned as the only Greyhound to win three different events on the one-day meet in Ohio. Antonon anchored both relays for the men, as the senior pushed the 200 medley to a 1:31.74 final time and the 400 free to a 3:04.14. His final victory came in the men's 200 free, where the individual win was marked on a final time of 45.94.
The women were led by the trio of
Emilia Colti-Dumitrescu,
Krystal Caylor and
Marizel van Jaarsveld, who each were recognized for winning two individual events each during the day. Colti-Dumitrescu moved into the top-five all-time in UIndy's history for the women's 1000 free, the freshman touching the wall on a final time of 10:15.24. Her 5:05.29 time in the women's 500 topped the event as well, as she finished four seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Caylor out-split the entire field in the final 50 of her 200 free, the junior ending the race on top with a time of 1:53.05. She claimed the 100 free as well, her time of 52.67 reaching past the rest of the field to win the event. Van Jaarsveld's quick start was all she needed in the women's 200 fly, touching-out her opponent by just a half-second for a final time of 2:06.31. She would later spread the distance further in her 400 IM swim, as she came into the wall at a 4:31.36 to win the event.
