INDIANAPOLIS- In its second dual win that came down to criteria in two weeks, the UIndy Greyhounds (6-6) took a 19-18 win over visiting Bellarmine in Great Lakes Valley Conference action in the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Friday night.
The dual came down to some last-match heroics from redshirt senior
Brody Conner, in his first action in two weeks. Conner, wrestling up a weight at 197, had to pin to force the match to criteria, and delivered with a fall over Charlie Caudell in 1:59. UIndy took the win by virtue of the third criteria, overall match points, 35-34.
Bellarmine took a win at 285 to start the dual, but #9
Ana Abduljelil (10-7) won his fourth-straight match with a 9-5 win over Brandon Lucas to tie the score at 3-3. The Knights would take three straight wins at 133, 141, and 149 to jump to a 12-3 lead, but #11
Dawson Combest and
Jack Eiteljorge took back-to-back wins at 157 and 165 to pull UIndy within three, 12-9. Combest (15-3) pushed his win streak to seven with a 2-1 decision over reigning GLVC Wrestler of the Week, Devan Hendricks at 157, with Eiteljorge (15-6) following with a 3-1 decision over Eric Beck at 165.
After Bellarmine pinned at 174,
Gleason Mappes bumped up to 184 to wrestle the Knight's Andy Dobben, coming away with a 5-2 win to put the Greyhounds within striking distance of the dual win, 18-12. Conner's pin closed out the evening and the Greyhound win.
The Bellarmine win closed out a stretch of eight duals in two weeks for the Greyhounds. UIndy is off until next Saturday, Feb. 1, when it hosts Drury in another GLVC matchup in the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center. Wrestling will begin at 5 p.m.
