Hounds Handle Bearcats for Third Straight Win

INDIANAPOLIS – "We had fun," said senior Jordache Mavunga after the UIndy men's basketball team's (14-4, 6-4 GLVC) third straight win on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds downed the visiting Southwest Baptist Bearcats (14-4, 7-3 GLVC) at Nicoson Hall, 97-78, with four finishing in double figures.

Mavunga led all scorers with 18 points on six-of-10 shooting, including four of five from 3-point range, while junior Trevor Lakes stayed hot with another 17-point effort with five triples.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was another quick start for UIndy on Saturday, but this time it started on the defensive end. The Greyhounds scored 15 points off turnovers, eventually forcing 13 while building a 47-27 lead by halftime.

Mavunga was the shining start in the opening 20 minutes, scoring 12 of his 18 in the first half. The senior was integral on the defensive end, as well, grabbing two of the team's eight steals. Lakes looked to add to his eight first-half points with a jumper before the buzzer, but it was Jacob Polakovich with his eighth rebound and a put-back just before the horn.

Big man Kendrick Tchoua gave the Greyhounds their largest lead of the afternoon at 25 with 11:18 left in the game with a bucket and the foul, before head coach Stan Gouard made a line change with under seven minutes remaining. Fellow rookie Frankie Davidson tallied eight points in six-plus minutes, while Terr'e Moss finished with five points and a rebound in the 97-78 final.
