ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The UIndy women's basketball (14-5, 7-4 GLVC) led for nearly 38 minutes on Thursday, grinding out a 52-46 victory at Lewis (12-7, 9-2 GLVC) from Neil Carey Arena.
Â
The Greyhounds handed the Flyers just their second loss at home this season, while the victory also marks the first UIndy win at Lewis since Jan. 23, 2012.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy controlled the first half due to its stout defense. The Greyhounds forced just seven turnovers in the opening 20 minutes, but limited the Flyers to 25.0 percent (eight of 32) shooting. Thomas led the Greyhounds with two steals before the break, including a pick-pocket with the finish on the other end to give UIndy a 19-14 advantage midway through the second.
The Flyers hit just eight field goals in the second half, as UIndy maintained its fierce pressure along the 3-point line. It was
Mickey Sasson that patrolled the defensive glass, grabbing eight boards – four in each half – to build momentum on the offensive end.
Â
Marissa Knobloch drilled a pair of 3-pointers in the second half to silence any Lewis run, while S. Sasson's lone point after halftime came at the charity stripe to seal the win.
