INDIANAPOLIS – Step back. Jumper. King.
Â
That was the shot that put UIndy senior
Jimmy King in the record books, as the hometown product became the 42nd player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points in the Greyhounds' 86-74 victory over No. 20 Southern Indiana Thursday night.
Â
UIndy improves to 10-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play action, while USI drops to 9-3 and 1-3.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
In what seems to be an every-game occurrence for the Greyhound defense, the Screaming Eagles' 3-point attack drilled eight of their first nine from deep to build a 13-point advantage before the under-eight timeout.
Â
But the 16th-ranked Greyhounds sandwiched the half with a game-changing 34-4 run while ultimately outpacing the Eagles by 11 boards.
Â
From that moment forward, the UIndy "D" proved especially stout as it limited USI to just two more points in the final eight minutes of the first half to pull away.
Â
King's milestone headlined the second half, but it was the Greyhound rebounding that stole the show. USI entered the game with a +14 margin on the glass, but UIndy flipped the script on the GLVC's best rebounding team with the help of 13 boards by
Jacob Polakovich.
Â
